Q: Why should we consider leveraging The Good Search as a strategic recruitment partner?
A. Search needs to evolve to match force with the increasing shortage of critical talent. We offer our clients a powerful competitive advantage by supercharging every engagement with expert Human Capital Intelligence (HCI). We are recognized experts in HCI. That means in the race for the best talent, HCI offers our clients an “unfair” competitive advantage because its like having a Ferrari engine under the hood. You simply outperform. Put another way, as it becomes harder and harder to find the right executive or technologist or other hard-to-find team member, one can work harder by approaching every potential candidate with an opportunity. Or one can work smarter. Another way we work smarter is by harnessing the power of attraction. Increasingly, we’re the search firm of choice for the best candidates because we represent superior opportunities at companies that are considered to be among the best places to work.
Q: How does The Good Search raise the bar?
A: First, The Good Search acts as a super-connector between top companies and candidates. We also serve as an extension of a great executive’s brand and of a great company’s brand. We’re not merely saying “here’s a qualified candidate”, we’re saying “here’s a qualified candidate who’s considered one of the ‘best of the best’.” Equally important, we’re saying to that executive “here’s a company that is considered to be among the best places to work.”
Q: Does my company have to have a stated Corporate Social Responsibility policy in order to work with The Good Search?
A: No. Clearly corporate goodness is relative. Companies that offer amazing benefits and have great diversity practices may have stumbled in the past in their compliance with antitrust laws. Startups with great wealth opportunities may not have been in existence long enough to establish a track record. What matters to us is that a company be on the path to goodness, to becoming an employer of choice. We work with companies with established CSR policies as well as work with those in the early stages of instituting improved search and recruitment practices and branding. The Good Search extends the branding of companies that have been recognized as being among the better places to work. Broadly speaking we serve more evolved companies that are making a commitment to goodness.
Q: So what else do you do that’s different?
A: We believe that all search is strategic, and so we formulate a strategy for all search projects. We examine threats and opportunities to find the shortest path to the best candidates. Moreover, we believe recruiters need to market opportunities better and desperately need to treat candidates with the respect they deserve. And so we take great care with our communications. We frame opportunities to make them more compelling and we attempt to develop genuine connections with the candidates we serve. Great strides have been made with candidate tracking systems and leveraging the web for recruitment purposes. But they have made the candidate experience increasingly transactional and impersonal. Moreover, these tools have increased the number of job applicants exponentially, but the majority of them are simply not qualified. And so what, on one hand, is supposed to make us more efficient and successful, on the other hand, is wasting our time, our money, and is causing many searches to fail. We offer a compelling alternative.
Q: Your secret sauce?
A: We try to keep it simple and elegant. We focus on execution. And, in doing so, we’ve created quite a following. Our candidate pipelines are our most popular offering. As I said, one major point of difference is that we are considered by many to be the leading human capital intelligence practice in recruiting. I have an investigative background. I worked as an award-winning journalist for twenty years prior to founding my firm. I believe he or she who has the best information, the best intelligence wins. From a tactical perspective, that’s our secret sauce. But in the end, I believe doing the right thing for good people is what assures our success. Quite simply we deliver great candidates to great companies. It doesn’t get any better than that.
